I have a gripe. I hate websites that start with: “Welcome to my website …”. I don’t really hate it, but I do know that it is very poor online communications. There are several reasons why it is poor.
Welcome to my website is irrelevant
When people google a business the most important thing they want to know is what you DO, not that you are polite!
It wastes your readers’ time
No offence to people on the web, but lets face it, we have an attention span of nano-seconds so don’t waste your opportunity by telling people they are on a WEBSITE.
Its boring and clichéd
Yesterday, I counted 62 million websites that start with “welcome to my website” (according to Google anyway) so you are sending the wrong message from the very first word if you are trying to stand out.
So my advice is to start with who you are, what you do and where you do it. Then tell them an interesting story.
