Workers compensation services — NSW icare

Open market workers compensation services tender for icare

Insurance and Care NSW (icare) is launching an open market tender for workplace rehabilitation, medico-legal and investigation services for the NSW Nominal Insurers Workers Compensation Scheme. Icare wants improved outcomes for injured workers and support for employers.

The tender will also seek services for the Bush Fire Fighters Compensation Fund, The Emergency and Rescue Workers Compensation Fund and the Uninsured Liability Scheme.

Consultation with icare stakeholders

The tender announcement followed extensive consultation on a new claims model with stakeholders including service providers, employers and brokers.

The consultation included:

  • a market study on potential service providers
  • an online survey on the NSW government website
  • interviews and focus groups with injured employees, businesses, unions, service providers and the community

How to prepare the workers compensation services tender

Organisations that are intending to bid for the tender need to first register on the NSW Government eTendering website to become prequalified.

The successful tenderers will form icare’s new panel and will commence service from 1 January 2023. The current contract for workplace rehabilitation, medico-legal and investigation providers will end at the end of 2022.

All the current providers will continue servicing claims where the referral is accepted prior to 1 January 2023 to ensure continuity of service to all customers.
