EOI Snug Cove Maritime Precinct, Port of Eden

The NSW Government’s vision to transform the Port of Eden into a major cruise and boating destination is underway. Private investors are being asked to help create a thriving maritime precinct. Transport for NSW is holding market engagement activities for interested businesses (submission due 31 Oct 2022). This will be followed by a formal Expressions of Interest process later in the year.

The government will seek EOIs later in 2022 from investors keen to participate in the delivery of a mixed-use marina development.

There has already been $36 million allocated for the harbour’s infrastructure improvement under the  Eden Safe Harbour Project. The project included the construction of a 366-metre wave attenuator to improve maritime safety and reliability.

Eden has been identified as a significant investment location. It will support the cruise industry, commercial fishing, tourism and recreational boating. Private investment at the Snug Cove precinct aims to increase its tourism potential.

The Port of Eden is a significant maritime hub and tourist destination with the Sapphire Coast attracting about one million visitors each year.  The Port of Eden supports one of the largest fishing fleets in the state, the Royal Australian Navy and Bega Valley region’s timber industry.

It is becoming a popular destination for the cruise industry. Disney recently announced (Sept 2022) that they would operate cruises in Australia, with Eden included as a key destination. From 2023, Disney will be offering two to six-day cruises. They feature entertainment from Disney characters such as Captain Mickey Mouse, Captain Minnie Mouse, Goofy and Pluto, as well as Star Wars and Marvel characters. Thus the 2022-23 cruise season is likely to break all records for cruise ship visits to Eden.
