Hunter Transmission Project EOI

Industry briefing and EOI

The NSW Government, through EnergyCo (a NSW statutory authority established to lead the delivery of the renewable energy zones) is inviting suitably experienced and qualified contractors to register for an industry briefing and EOI Phase for the Hunter Transmission Project (HTP). The HTP involves building a new above-ground 500 kV transmission line of approximately 100 kilometres that will connect Bayswater to Eraring.

Purpose of the Hunter Transmission Project (HTP)

The HTP is one of the state’s most critical energy projects. It must be built by early 2028 to provide energy security as coal-fired power stations retire. It will help create a ring of 500 kV transmission infrastructure that will be the backbone of NSW’s electricity grid.

The HTP will connect the supply of electricity from the Central-West Orana and New England renewable energy zones (REZs) allowing it to be imported to the grid via Bayswater. From there, it will be delivered to consumers in the Hunter, Sydney and Illawarra where 80% of the state’s electricity is used.

A REZ is the renewables-based equivalent of a power station. It combines generation, transmission and storage to provide affordable, clean, reliable and secure energy.

Context of the Hunter Transmission Project

The NSW Government, through EnergyCo is developing renewable energy to provide cleaner, more affordable and reliable electricity to consumers thorugh:

  • generating electricity (wind and solar) in renewable energy zones (REZs) across NSW
  • improving reliability with new storage capacity (batteries and pumped hydro)
  • building new transmission infrastructure to deliver clean energy to consumers.

Registering for the industry briefing and EOI phase

EnergyCo to commence procurement of contractors to design and construct the HTP will be holding a non-mandatory Industry Briefing (‘HTP Industry Briefing’) for suitably qualified and experienced contractors.

Only organisations with experience in delivering large-scale transmission lines or substation projects, will be invite to attend the HTP industry briefing.  Interested parties must demonstrate that they have local or international experience in the delivery of projects of a similar scale and nature to the HTP.

Interested parties are being asked to return a completed copy of the registration of interest form and an executed confidentiality and disclaimer deed poll.
